DMA was born out of the aspirations of three colleagues from the former Blick clock card machines Company in East Devon. When Blick was taken over by Stanley Security and after subsequent redundancy, the three workmates: Dave Vranch, Mike Banks and Austin Cole took the decision to start DMA.
New premises were sought and the company moved into their current site at Cofton Road Marsh Barton in early 1991 – Although sadly due to ill health Austin never worked there.
Since the heady days of early 1991 the prestige, quality and offering of DMA has grown to be one of the best respected specialist sheet metal fabrication Companies is the South West.
Examples of previous work can be seen in the “Gallery” – but include:- architectural, structural, cladding, electronics and electrical components (cabinets, boxes, rack frames, flight cases, trunking etc), external and internal lighting systems, theatrical hardware, stainless steel catering projects and specialist small series brackets for the automotive industry, along with bespoke industrial work station, benches etc. etc.
PHE, Post House Engineering in contrast has just been around since 2009. Started by Pete Norton with a former career in project and production Management, for and with Companies like JCB, Vauxhall and Goodridge, Pete has had a solid grounding in hands on precision machining and production.
Originally based in North Devon and offering sub contract manual only, milling, grinding and turning and specialising in manufacturing, tooling, fixtures and gauging, both the volume and range of work and the capacity and capability of the kit has continued to grow.
Synergy
During the last ten years or so a couple of things happened to bring these two parties together:-
Pete Norton joined Goodridge in 2002– who were looking for on-going specialist fabrication skills to produce prototype automotive brackets for a prestigious OE Client.
And then Dave Vranch retired from DMA in 2010, leaving Mike as sole Director.
Pete Norton: “Working with Mike, Carl and Jason over the last ten years or so is, and always has been great, the experience, energy and skill they bring to every job is fantastic – at the end of 2015 Mike was talking about retiring and I was looking for larger premises – Then he suggested the obvious”
Bringing together the two disciplines under one roof clearly has multiple advantages. Not only the increased offering to both Customer groups, but also within the Company, internal toolmaking and CAD in house etc.
Though clearly being offered the opportunity of retaining the integrity of DMA’s name, position and Team: Carl and Jason, is a real honour, and one to be genuinely relished.
From a single prototype to hundreds of units, all work is undertaken with great care, integrity and the highest quality workmanship available.
